Correct handling and cooking of
food is critical to preventing foodborne illness. The Food Safety
Supervisor (FSS) program requires restaurants, cafes, takeaway shops, caterers,
bakeries, pubs, clubs, hotels and supermarket hot food sales to have at least
one trained FSS. People who complete FSS training hold a nationally
recognised qualification stating that they have skills and knowledge to handle
Under the NSW Food Act 2003, FSS certificates are current for five years from the date of issue. Any person wishing to be appointed as an FSS for a food business must attain the required units of competency from an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to be eligible to obtain a certificate. To assist the local food business industry, Council is pleased to advise that an approved RTO will be conducting Food Safety Supervisor training in the area.
