Council is required to have a Community Engagement Strategy which outlines how they will engage the Community during the development of the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) 2027. This Strategy is to replace Council’s existing Community Engagement Strategy.
It is critical that Council carries out effective Community Engagement during the preparation of the Community Strategic Plan 2027 to ensure that:
• Council builds a robust and sustainable Council and Community; and
• Services are aligned with the Community desires, needs and expectations.
Council has committed to a new engagement approach to specifically reach out to people in the Upper Hunter Shire who are less likely to participate in conventional methods of consultation or have been traditionally ‘hard to reach’. Council has tested the draft Community Engagement Strategy and then further refined before submitting to Council for endorsement, to ensure methods applied are reaching all target groups.
The Upper Hunter Shire Community Engagement Strategy – CSP 2027 reflects Council’s new approach. This is the start of this engagement approach for Council, with a Council Policy and staff toolkit planned for 2017.
Council's Community Engagement Strategic Plan is available at Council's offices located in Merriwa, Murrurndi and Scone and is published here as open access information in accordance with the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA).
