Residents and landowners from the Cassilis region can dispose of fire damage waste free of charge at Upper Hunter Shire Council’s Merriwa and Cassilis landfills.
The waste must not contain asbestos and would generally come from sheds, fencing and equipment that is fire damaged.
Arrangements are currently being finalised with Warrumbungle Shire Council for waste containing asbestos to be delivered to a special fire asbestos waste cell at Coonabarabran. In this way asbestos can be handled and managed in accordance with Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) guidelines and be managed by appropriate personnel.
Cassilis landfill on the Golden Highway, will be open during normal operating hours on Saturday and Wednesday from 8am to 4pm.
Merriwa landfill on Depot Road is open Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 12 noon and 1pm to 4pm.
“Residents or landowners accessing the landfill to dispose of burnt waste will be asked to complete a declaration regarding name, address and source location for the waste to assist with incident reporting requirements.

areas for steel and wire, bricks and concrete or mixed.
Affected landholders can also contact local steel agents for direct collection of fencing and steel from their property stockpile. Further details are available from Council.
