Aberdeen was the focus of school holiday fun yesterday (Wednesday 20 April 2016). Fifty-two young people from across the Upper Hunter Shire enjoyed a free Art and Skateboarding workshop hosted by the Upper Hunter Shire Council.
The young people took part in professionally run skateboard classes which catered for absolute beginners through to young people already confident with tricks on the skate equipment. Drawing and badge making activities gave participants another option when they were wanting a break from skateboards and scooters.
Council staff from SOOSH (Scone Out of School Hours), Youth Services and Community Services organised the event, supervised and helped keep everyone sun smart with water and sunscreen.
Transport and event funding were received through Youth Week grants from the Department of Family and Community Services.
Council’s Community Services Manager Kerri Cone said the event promoted the great facilities at the Aberdeen Skate Park. “We were glad to see so many young people attend and enjoy the day,” Mrs Cone said.
There is another great free activity on tomorrow for children and youths - Laser Skirmish at Bill Rose Sporting Complex - 4pm to 9pm Friday 22 April.
