Three thousand dollars has been donated to the Upper Hunter Mayoral Bushfire Appeal by the Victoria Hotel and Moonan community to help affected families rebuild what they have lost.
The money was originally raised during a drought relief concert in November 2014 which still had funds remaining. Contributions to the funds came from Hester Fraser and sales of her song ‘Dust’, the Bowden Brothers, and the local businesses and community.
Owners of the Victoria Hotel Moonan Flat, Peter and Kathy Barnett presented the donation to Mayor Wayne Bedggood and Deputy Mayor Maurice Collison on the weekend.
“These two small communities are 160 kilometres apart but share an understanding of the challenges of living on the land,” Cr Bedggood said.
“The bushfire recovery is a long journey and we are pleased to assist through the Mayoral Bushfire Appeal.
“We thank the Moonan community and everyone else who has donated.”
