Over 200 people attended bringing in all manner of treasurers including an original penny farthing bicycle, a hand blown glass cattle trough float, a priceless 600 year old Iranian vase amongst a plethora of other great conversation starting treasures. One particularly great story was from a Merriwa gentleman who picked up an Asian wooden shield from a car boot sale for $10 only to have it valued at over $2,000 a week later.
This was the second year Council has hosted the Roadshow in partnership with the Murrurundi Arts Council, Merriwa and Murrurundi CWA and Merriwa Senior Citizens and Pensioners Association.
There was a queue out the door at all three venues, and Council plans to bring back the Roadshow look out for more treasures in 2018.
International Women’s Day was celebrated in Merriwa on Wednesday, 8 March 2017 with guest speaker, regional health nurse Sharee Witney providing plenty of top health tips. Merriwa CWA hosted the event which was supported by Council and attracted over 30 participants.
To top off Senior’s Festival 2017, Council supported two art therapy workshops at Gummun Place Hostel and Merriwa Multipurpose Service on Friday, 24 March. Twenty-six residents and visitors took part creating some very fancy chooks and roosters thanks to the artistic skills of Pearl Moon from Murrurundi.
Council held six different computer and technology workshops at Community Connect Services (formally CTC) and one at Scone Library in partnership with the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre as part of the Festival. Seniors learnt about how to use their computers, iPads, tablets or smart phones and what they can use them for.
On Thursday 9 March, 15 seniors came for a ‘peak behind the counter’ tour at the Scone Administration Centre to learn the in-and-outs of how Council operates.
