September school holidays - Entertain those Schoolers

“I'm bored…!" Go on parents, collectively roll your eyes... and then quickly circumvent that phrase by getting yourself a copy of What’s On, the Upper Hunter Shire Council’s school holiday activities (parent-saver) handbook.

There are plenty of activities to choose from but in many cases places need to be booked in advance – so you’ve been warned – get booking!

Week one includes activities at all UHSC Libraries; drop-in opportunities at each of the Shire’s Youth Centres and the new Colour Fun Run, an initiative of the Upper Hunter Youth Council.

Week two features a Mental Health Workshop with a talk and games with Joe Williams at Scone Basketball Stadium and an excursion to Game On in Muswellbrook, tennis camp, plus there are a few hours of gymnastics over three days and a trip to Tamworth for Ten Pin Bowling at Level Up and the movies. And there’s also a free Family Fun Day at Scone Park.

Are you tired yet? Define bored?

All the details are included in the Upper Hunter Shire Council ‘What’s On’ guide to school holiday activities. ‘What’s On’ is distributed to most school children in the Upper Hunter and is available here.

“We have so much on offer this school holidays,” Youth Services Supervisor Mary Spora said. “There is a range of things to do for all ages.”

Upper Hunter featured holiday activities include:

Morning craft activities throughout the week at Aberdeen, Cassilis, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone Libraries.

Scone Out Of School Hours has a range of activities planned including planting flowers for spring, barefoot bowls, sports activities, movies and popcorn and an excursion to Game On, Muswellbrook.

Wednesday, 27 September - Colour Fun Run, white clothes recommended! (Provided you don’t mind they become covered in colour) From 9.30am at the Bill Rose Sport Complex, run, walk or skip whatever distance you choose, everyone is welcome from toddlers to grandparents! Cost is $5/child, $8/adult and $15/family but children under 10 need an adult supervisor. Colour will be added to your day at the finish line to celebrate your achievement! A BBQ and water will be provided.

Scone Gymnastics at Scone Youth Centre – limited places available 3-5 October, 9am-11am for beginners ($50/3days) and 9am-12pm for advanced ($60/3days).

Thursday, 5 October – Family Fun Day at Scone Park from 10-1pm, storytelling and craft, face painting and a clown as well as a sausage sizzle with the opportunity to meet emergency services staff.

The last Friday of the school holidays Murrurundi and Scone Youth Centres have a trip to Tamworth planned for Ten Pin Bowling and a movie, permission notes can be downloaded here.
