Upper Hunter Shire Council is supporting the 27th annual Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 5 March 2017. All residents are invited to come along to help out, bring the kids and enjoy a barbecue or morning tea.
Those who register and take part in Clean Up Australia Day activities will receive a voucher for a free drop off that day (5 March) at an Upper Hunter Shire Waste Depot, of up to a trailer load of household waste.
“Volunteers are urged to come along and help keep our Shire looking great,” Upper Hunter Shire Mayor Wayne Bedggood said.
Rubbish bags will be available but please bring along a pair of gloves and a water bottle, and wear sensible shoes, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
Scone: Meet at Elizabeth Park from 9.00am to register and teams will be allocated to nearby areas. A free sausage sizzle for participants will be held from 10.45am to 11.30am. For more information or to register, contact Council on 6540 1100.
Murrurundi: Meet at the Murrurundi Visitor Information Centre from 9am for an adventure with the Pages River Warriors. There will be a free morning tea for volunteers. For more information or to register your interest phone Council’s Murrurundi Office on 6540 1350.
Merriwa: Register at the Merriwa Lion’s Park, Driver Reviver Station from 8am. Volunteers can enjoy a free morning tea after the clean up. For more information contact Beron Arden Wood of Merriwa District Progress Association on 6548 2245.
On 5 March the Upper Hunter Shire Waste Depots are open these hours:
- Aberdeen, 9am to 5pm
- Merriwa, 8am to 12noon and 1pm to 4pm
- Murrurundi, 9am to 1pm
- Scone, 9am to 5pm
Free waste disposal will only be available to Clean Up participants who hold a voucher for that day.
What about your park?
Community and sporting groups are encouraged to clean up around their own club houses or sports areas. Please register your Clean Up with Council’s Manager of Community Services Kerri Cone on 6541 1141 for insurance purposes.
