2025 Australia Day Awards Announced

Council has proudly announced the nominees for the 2025 Australia Day Awards. This year, exceptional individuals and groups from across the Shire have been recognised for their dedication to community service, sports, culture, and youth achievements. The winners will be revealed at the Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2025 .

Supporting Educational and Artistic Excellence

Council reaffirmed its commitment to fostering local talent by endorsing the 2024 School Achievement and Creative Arts Excellence Awards. This program celebrates outstanding contributions by students in academics, creative arts, and community engagement, showcasing the potential of Upper Hunter’s youth .

Progress on the Airport Development Project

Significant steps were taken in advancing the Airport Development Project. Council has committed to using local suppliers and Council labour to complete the Bellman Hangar for the restoration of aircraft works, ensuring economic benefits flow back into the community. This project continues to support growth and innovation within the Shire .

Improving Water Quality in Cassilis

Council resolved to investigate the feasibility of alternative bore water sources to improve the water supply for Cassilis. Staff will assess the current bores, explore water quality from nearby private bores, and consider the potential for a new bore installation. A detailed report outlining options, costs, and recommendations will be presented to Council in the coming months.

Return and Earn Facilities Expansion

Council resolved to lobby TOMRA, the network operator for Return and Earn, to establish facilities in Murrurundi and Aberdeen. These facilities, if established, will make it easier for residents to participate in waste reduction and resource recovery initiatives.
