Strengthening Aged Care in Merriwa

At our Extraordinary Council Meeting on 11 February 2025, Council reinforced its commitment to aged care services in Merriwa by endorsing the establishment of the Gummun Place Hostel Advisory Committee. This decision follows strong community interest in securing the long-term future of the facility.

The Gummun Place Hostel Advisory Committee has been created to advocate for the hostel and provide a platform for ongoing community engagement. Its key objectives include:

• Representing community interests in discussions about the facility’s future.
• Exploring potential opportunities to enhance the sustainability and viability of aged care services in Merriwa.
• Providing recommendations to Council on matters related to aged care and senior living in the region.

Council has now reviewed nominations and appointed members to the committee, with a focus on ensuring a diverse range of perspectives and local representation. The committee is expected to convene its first meeting soon, allowing discussions to commence on immediate priorities and longer-term strategies for the facility.
