Scone's vibrant arts scene has a new star on the rise: Chanel Smith, a year 10 student at St Joseph's Catholic College, Aberdeen, whose artistic flair has just earned her the top spot in the Kia Ora Logo competition. Chanel's design will be showcased across all promotional materials for the event, a testament to her creative skill and passion for art.

We sat down and had a chat with Chanel who shared her love for art as her favourite subject, appreciating the personal expression it allows. "Art gives us time to ourselves and lets us bring our minds out to our artwork," she says. This self-expression is evident in her winning logo, which reflects her personal love for horses and captures the spirit of the Upper Hunter.

Despite not having her own horse, Chanel enjoys horse riding, a pastime that inspired her logo design. The challenge of incorporating letters into her artwork was new to her, but she embraced it, hand-lettering the design with a unique touch.

Chanel's advice for her peers is to seize opportunities and step out of their comfort zones.

Her winning logo is already stirring excitement within the community. It's not just a symbol; it's a showcase of youthful creativity, ready to greet participants and spectators alike with a visual celebration of the Kia Ora Music Camp's spirit.

We congratulate Chanel Smith on her achievement and look forward to seeing her design come to life.  Stay tuned as we follow Chanel's journey and the upcoming music camp, where her logo will set the stage for an unmissable event!

The Kia Ora Youth Music Camp is a 3 day musical adventure that begins on April 3 and finishes with a grand performance on Friday April 5. Registration to the camp and tickets to the final concert are available now.
