February 2025 – Extraordinary Council Meeting Recap Council endorsed the Gummun Place Hostel Advisory Committee, reaffirming its commitment to the future of aged care services in Merriwa. The newly formed committee will advocate for the facility and explore opportunities to ensure its long-term viability. With strong community interest, Council reviewed nominations and appointed members to begin discussions as soon as possible.
Hannah Gillett, Upper Hunter Shire’s Young Citizen of the Year 2025 Hannah’s journey leading up to the Australia Day Awards was shaped by the opportunities that came from attending the Adelaide Leadership Summit last year. She describes this experience as a turning point, opening doors for her as a young leader and paving the way for further growth. Inspired by this, she was involved in organising a local Leadership Summit at St Joseph’s Aberdeen.
Opening Marks a Milestone in Council’s Bridge Replacement Program Dartbrook Bridge opening marks the successful completion of Upper Hunter Shire Council’s bridge replacement program, funded with over $10.9 million from the NSW Government. This project enhances infrastructure safety and reliability across the Upper Hunter Shire.
January 27 Public Holiday Closure Announcement Please note that all Admin Centres, ELC, Waste Facilities and Libraries will be closed on Monday 27 January, 2025, for the Australia Day long weekend public holiday. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday 28 January 2025.
