Youth

Youth Services provide a range of programs for young people throughout the Shire, including Youth Centres in Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone. The Youth Centres offer social, recreational and educational programs which include:

  • Summer Swim Program at local pools
  • Dinner or snacks at all Youth Centre sessions
  • Sports and outdoor games
  • TV / movies / playstation facilities
  • Wifi
  • Support for young people with referrals to youth services, resume and job seeking advice

Other community youth programs are run, including:

  • Upper Hunter Youth Council
  • Youth Week
  • Holiday workshops – which can include creative and sports based activities
  • Naidoc week and other indigenous supports

Youth Services also provide a range of Department of Justice and Communities funded Targeted Early Intervention programs including:

  • Referrals to youth services
  • One to one mentoring and casework
  • Counselling – individual and family groups
  • Skills groups
  • Parenting groups

 

Youth Council

The Upper Hunter Youth Council is made up of students from Primary and High Schools from across the Upper Hunter.

Upper Hunter Shire Young Endeavour Scheme

Council’s Young Endeavour Scheme gives young people from a rural area the unique experience of an ocean voyage on a tall ship.
