Refund available for desexing shortly after adoption:
If an animal is desexed shortly after adoption, the $210 registration fee can be refunded and the $29.00 fee applied. The cost of desexing a large adult dog is around $200.

Council offers free desexing and microchipping of cats adopted from the shelter so only
the registration ($25.00) fee apply for cats.
In order to reduce the number of unwanted pets and feral cats, reduce the costs of caring for unwanted cats, and to make it more affordable to adopt a desexed cat from Upper Hunter Shire animal shelters, all cats will be desexed for free, prior to rehoming. Funding for the cat desexing program is provided from the NSW Government’s Responsible Pet Ownership Program.
