Upper Hunter Shire is a diverse, scenic region.
Encompassing the towns of Scone, Aberdeen, Merriwa and Murrurundi and many smaller villages, the Upper Hunter Shire covers about 8,100m2, with a population of approximately 14,500 people.
The Upper Hunter boasts excellent infrastructure, quality health and community services, education and a variety of sporting and cultural activities. The thriving economic base is centred on a very wealthy equine and agriculture industry resulting in a buoyant and well serviced retail area. The region is also home to cattle and sheep grazing lands, cereal cropping, wineries and prestigious horse studs.

Upper Hunter Shire is located in the Hunter Region of NSW, approximately 250km north of Sydney. The Shire is predominantly rural and encompasses 8,100km2.
