Upper Hunter Shire Council is seeking your feedback on the draft Masterplan for the Merriwa Sportsground – the largest and most significant open space precinct in Merriwa. This plan aims to guide the future development of the sportsground to better meet the needs of local residents, sporting groups, schools and visitors.
Located in the heart of Merriwa on Geawegal Country, the Merriwa Sportsground precinct currently offers a wide range of sporting and recreational facilities, including two sporting ovals, a golf course, tennis courts, playground, skate park and cricket nets. The space is home to several local clubs and sporting groups and serves as a hub for organised sport, casual recreation and community gatherings.
Following early consultation with local sports clubs, schools and other stakeholders, a draft Masterplan has been prepared to capture the community’s vision for the future of this important space. We are now inviting the broader Merriwa community to have their say.
The draft Masterplan proposes a range of improvements and upgrades to enhance the usability, safety and appearance of the precinct. These include better spectator facilities, improved accessibility, formalised car parking, new playground and picnic areas, more shaded spaces, pedestrian-friendly connections and the potential for new community amenities such as a pump track and RV parking.
We want to know:
- How do you currently use Merriwa Sportsground, and what do you value most about it?
- What do you think of the existing facilities? Are there any that work well, or that need improvement?
- Do you have ideas for new facilities, features or improvements that would make Merriwa Sportsground even better for the community?
Your feedback is essential in shaping a Masterplan that reflects the needs, aspirations and ideas of Merriwa’s people, both now and into the future.
Community consultation is now open and will close at 4:30pm on Wednesday, 30 April 2025.
